Kitchen Improvements to Enjoy and Increase the Value of Your Home

It is an interesting fact that the kitchen could be the key to building value and wealth in your home. If you are want to boost the value of your home through any improvements then the kitchen is an excellent place to start.

Improvements

Any improvements you are going to make depends on the current state and condition of your kitchen. There are, however, some important areas to focus on.

Colors

The colors of the kitchen can affect the overall feel and atmosphere. Neutral colors, which are used often in modern kitchens, such as soft shades of gray, cream, gold and earth tones are popular. Wood cabinets and floors tends to be in light to medium colored finishes. A great effect is to paint the cupboards and then wipe it off to reveal the wood grain.

A practical and stunning addition is a stainless steel range hood. The kitchen island, in a larger kitchen, creates extra workspace. Occasionally the material for the worktop is different to that of the rest of the kitchen. These can look stunning if the correct materials are chosen.

Two of Everything

In more extravagant kitchens, where budgets allow, a popular addition is to have two of some appliances such as dishwashers, ranges, fridges etc. These will add value to the home but are also very useful for the larger family. Marble surfaces for pastry making and built in chopping blocks are also very useful additions.

To make work surfaces brighter and shadow free many people opt for the option of under cabinet lighting. Built in microwaves are found in nearly every modern kitchen. One useful option, however is a dedicated drinks making area with its own mini bar and sink.

Practical Matters

A nice upgrade which is useful for putting a large pot under for filling with water is the pot filler spigot. When the water fills the pot to the desired height, the spigot can simply be swung out of the way enabling the pot to be easily lifted out. An even easier option is to have the spigot placed above a cooking surface so that the pot does not even have to be moved to be filled.

Appliances

The more expensive appliance makers like Sub-Zero, Viking, and Thermador have produced many innovations in the recent years. Manufacturers of less expensive appliances are starting to following suit. It is possible to find a stove with two ovens or six burners instead of the more often found four.

Cabinets

New kitchen cabinets can often be a bit expensive, but they are definitely worth it when it comes time to selling the home. Custom made cabinets are definitely the way to go if you can afford it. If you can't afford custom cupboards then many high street stores sell ready made units.

A kitchen renovation plan is definitely and option seriously worth considering if you are looking to increase the value of your home.
