Enhancing The Appearance Of An Old Kitchen Stove

Moving into a new home often does not mean you are going to be greeted by a collection of shiny new kitchen appliances. In particular, you will probably find the stove has had a number of years of use as they are not replaced that often. Also, after moving house, the last thing most people want to do is shell out on new appliances. Even though it is nice to have a modern looking stove, you can still make changes to your current one to make it look more up to date.

When planning the color scheme of your kitchen you will probably discover that the color of your stove does not match or complement it well. The stove may also be scuffed, marked or have signs of a lot of wear. This can easily be remedied by buying spray paint from a hardware store that has been specifically designed for metal appliances. The colors are often limited, so you will have to stick to neutral colors.

I would not advise spray painting the stove in the kitchen as you can easily end up with paint everywhere on other appliances and furniture. Also, most paints need to be used in a well ventilated area which often means outside.

You will often find, on your outdated stove, that there are wire coils covering the electric and gas-burning surface. Placing a teakettle on top of these coils can add a nice decorative look. They come in many different colors and shapes which can match your kitchen decorative scheme well. Also they can give a very contemporary look to the kitchen.

In most cases, the stove is placed against a kitchen wall with a small range hood fixed above it. The area at the back of the stove can be decorated. Ideas include, colored splash backs, decorative tiles or even a nice piece of art. Also, there is a small ledge at the back of the stove on which you can place a few terracotta pots. You should, however, take care that any items are heat or fire proof.

Any old, outdated stove can be painted and accessorized to make it look new and modern. If the option of buying a new stove is beyond your budget then these techniques for updating the look of your current one is a good decision to make.
