Designing Tips For The Adolescent Kid's Room

Children would sooner or later grow up. Then, as children become teenagers, their worldview would change. So, although they've expressed their devotion to a particular inhabitant of Toonville when they were seven years old, and may have begged their mothers and fathers to paint a bedroom wall mural in the inhabitant of Toonville's likeness, these adolescents' tastes may have already shifted and would wish for a major room makeover to express their individuality.

At this crucial time when teenagers are creating their own identities, mothers and fathers should recall to be there to offer support to their teens and not totally interfere with the child's attempt at establishing his or her character. So, to help their children become well-adjusted adults later on, mothers and fathers can show their support by helping their teens plan the new interior design for their rooms - designs that celebrate their coming of age.

Some parents allow their teenagers free rein on the choice of interior design for their bedrooms. However, there are teens who would also ask for advise from their mother and father regarding the design options for their rooms. The following are some design ideas that a parent and child team can apply in the child's bedroom.

Lighting. Some interior design experts suggest indirect lighting for bedrooms. Fluorescent bulbs usually produce the "grocery aisle" effect, and this is instantly vanquished by indirect lighting. Indirect lighting can be accomplished with strategically placed lamps in the room.

Furniture. Some teenagers would assume that the bean bag is enough interior design statement. Thus, if parents wish to introduce their teenagers to the concept of interior decorating, then they could help the teenagers pick out the most appropriate pieces of furniture that would match with the overall color scheme of their kid's room.

Storage. Admittedly, most teenagers haven't yet mastered the art of organizing and keeping their personal belongings in their rightful places. Unique storage bins might be able to encourage them to stow their personal stuff and keep these off the floor and the bed.
