Making Kitchen Cabinets Safe for Your Small Children

Security must always be a worry when you are working with kitchen cabinets, however a security worry that is frequently unnoticed when new kitchen cabinets are put in is making sure that small children are kept safe and sound. Kitchen cabinets that are not appropriately made safe for small kids can go from a thing of splendor to a thing of horror in a matter of seconds.

Consider of all the things you may stock up within your kitchen cabinets that can create a probable risk to small kids. Chemicals, foods, and other substances that can be harmful to kids are almost always kept in your kitchen cabinets. Add to those heavy plates, bowls, and other kitchen items and the recipe for disaster is enormous.

Luckily there are simple steps that you can take to ensure safety is always in place inside your kitchen and especially with your kitchen cabinets:

* Install Door Locks That Slide for Your Kitchen Cabinets: These devices are made of plastic and consist of u-shaped piece that merely slides underneath two door handles and then will get cinched down taut. A kid trying to open the cabinets will be unsuccessful and an adult can simply release the security device with a simple squeezing of a discharge device. A downside to these kinds of safety features is the fact that children can still open the doors of the kitchen cabinets slightly which will permit them to pinch their fingers.

* Install Y-Loop Door Locks for Your Kitchen Cabinets: These serve the same purpose as the sliding door locks only these are made for kitchen cabinet doors that have knobs instead of handles. They cinch up tight like the sliding locks do and are just as easy to release for adults. They also come with the same drawback, unfortunately.

* Set Up Door Locks on the Inside for Your Kitchen Cabinets: These sorts of locks are used on the inside of the cabinet and are often the protection of choice as they are out of plain display. They easily set up on the inside of the cabinet door and on the border of the cabinet itself. Children trying to jerk open the kitchen cabinet will not be able to do so and adults can easily open them with a little downward force being applied. Yet again, the pinching possibility is present, however better a pinch than a major accident.

Keeping small kids safe and your kitchen cabinets appearing their very best can be a challenge, however it is one that you can simply get over. With a little bit of time and a very small expenditure of money, you can make sure that your kitchen cabinets will be as safe as can be for all the tiny hands that might come in and out of your kitchen at all times.
