Kitchen Appliances - Deciding Between An Electric Cooker And A Gas Cooker
In the kitchen, the cooker rules the roost. This handy appliance allows chefs of all walks of life to slow roast turkeys, bake scrumptious pies, and whip up some dinner rolls. Though the cooked food is the same in the end, some cookers utilize gas to heat it, and others use electricity. Houses have the proper apparatus for one kind or the other, but modifications to change over are not often difficult to perform. The choice is then up to you whether you will go with a gas cooker or an electric model.
Though the end result of using either a gas or electric cooker is the same, getting there is usually just a touch different. Gas cookers, for example, heat up much more quickly than electric ones. You will of course need to preheat the oven either way, but gas cookers do so more quickly. Also, as gas burns, water vapor is released, which tends to keep the food inside moist. Food cooked in electric ovens can benefit from a little bit of water placed in the bottom.
Electric cookers sometimes have a more difficult time of keeping an even temperature than gas cookers. Electric fan hobs do, however, heat food very quickly, and those that are experienced in cooking will be able to use them just fine. Energy rates are usually not that much different between gas and electric ovens. The rates of each utility seem to balance the other out as they fluctuate, and cookers tend not to be energy hogs in the first place.
When using the stovetop of a gas cooker, the burners are at temperature as soon as they are lit. Electric stoves require more time for the electric coils to get to the desired temperature. With electric stovetops, however, the coils can be hidden under a covering that looks nice without exposed heating elements. Not only are these electric cookers aesthetically pleasing, but they are more easily cleaned. The top must simply be wiped off without the need of digging under coils and burners.
Whichever style of cooker you choose, it just takes some getting used to the one you purchase. Some will tell you that gas ovens are more adept at even heating, and others claim that electric cookers do need as much adjusting. Both types of cooker consume similar amounts of energy, so then the decision comes down to personal taste, features, and ease of operation and cleaning.
