How to Repair your Electric Clothes Dryer

One of the greatest household appliances are Clothes Dryers, especially useful for people who live in an upper level apartment building and cannot hang their clothes outside on a line. Still, after a while your clothes dryer will start to break down, when it is necessary to have some knowledge about its repairing.

However, it is recommended to check the warranty period and call a repairman to come and fix it, instead of trying to fix it by yourself. There is a risk that if you try to repair it, you may null the warranty. Then, you may end up having to pay for all the parts.

Only in case your clothes dryer is past its warranty you can try to repair it on your own, without anybody's help.

The problem might occur if your clothes dryer need more time to dry than usually. However, in that case you can read the instructions in your owner's manual, because this is one of the most important booklets that you could ever get about the trouble shooting which occasionally might happen. First of all, make sure the lint filter is cleaned and keep on cleaning it regularly at least once a week.

If filter is all right, the next thing to check is your vent tube. Maybe it has been clogged by something and has to be cleaned out. In that case you should unplug the clothes dryer and slide it away from the wall so that you can hold it from the back. However, you cannot move it much, as the hose doesn't allow that.

You will need channel locks, screwdriver, or even a pair of pliers to release the hose. Once you pick up the hose, you can see down into it as far as you can, or you can shake it to see if there may be some trash somewhere in the hose itself.

If there is nothing wrong here, consult the owner's manual on what to do next. Take the back off the clothes dryer but, be very careful with the sharp edges on the cross plates which, even if dull, can cut you sometimes very badly. Once you see the heating unit, you will find out that you will have to disconnect some wires, but make sure you know which wires go where, because if you don't put them in the right spot you can cause an electrical fire.

On the inside of the plate you will notice some screws or nuts that have been tightened down. It can be hard to release them so that they will turn easily, however, once the unit is detached you should take it to the right facility to have it checked.

Nonetheless, there are a few other items, such as the motor and belt, but there isn't enough space in this article to tell something about those parts. Still, make sure you get a little knowledge about how to repair your clothes dryer once it breaks down.
