Frigidaire Appliances - A Renowned American Company
Frigidaire, a home and commercial appliance manufacturing company has been around since 1916. The name of the company is often times used in place of the word refrigerator. This is like Kleenex brand is with the word tissue. Frigidaire has branded their refrigerator line like other big players, such as Xerox has with their copiers. Frigidaire has long been recognized as a manufacturer that provides quality and long-lasting appliances. Two men, Mr. Alfred Mellowes and Mr. Nathaniel Whales, first invented the "self-contained" refrigerator and Frigidaire then took over the development and production of the product. I bet you were wondering why people call their refrigerator a "Frigidaire"… Well now you know! ![]()
Some "crooners" have given credence to the brand name Frigidaire by mentioning it in their song lyrics. A Great Britain musician has paid homage to the brand by bringing it up in his 2007 album. "From Auschwitz to Ipswich" is the name of Jarvis' song. An American Legend also crooned about a "Frigidaire". Ray Charles sang a song called "I'm Gonna Move to the Outskirts of Town."
Frigidaire was not always named as such. The original company was called, The Guardian Frigerator Company. The company was born on the soil of Detroit Michigan. Mr. William Durant, stepped in two years after it open its doors and personally invested in the company. For those of you who don't recognize the name, Billy was the President of a small company called General Motors at the time. A year later, it changed its name to its present day name, Frigidaire, and General Motors bought the company from Mr. Durant. General Motors owned it up until 1979. At this point, perhaps it's time to move away from the past history of Frigidaire and more into present day. While most everyone knows that Frigidaire makes refrigerators, did you know that they also manufacture air conditioners, washers, dryers freezers, ranges and hoods. They also make small appliances such as toaster ovens, coffee pots and toasters. They are not just a "kitchen appliance" company! I recently found out that they make a line of freezers and refrigerators for commercial applications as well. Have I told you something you didn't already know? I hope so.
